The
Redgate Oboe Quintet
I have for many years had a great interest in music for oboe and
string trio/quartet. There are of course quite a number of works for
these combinations and in the 18th century the oboe quartet was quite
fashionable.
I have recently formed my own quintet called The
Redgate Oboe Quintet and have begun to commission several
new works. In the past I have had works written for this combination by
James Clarke and Roger Redgate and Christopher Fox wrote his partly at
my instigation. But there are several new works in the pipeline
or under discussion by Jo Cutler (Due in 2004) James Dillon and Joel
Durand (For 2006) and Brian Ferneyhough (for 2007). As I say,
these are at the discussion stage at the moment with the exception of
the Cutler.
I have recently purchased a new Howarth XL3 oboe, which is wonderful!
The Musette in Eb that I purchased last year is proving of great interest to composers. I have several works promised for the instrument. (This is a little used instrument in the oboe family with a great deal of potential. I will dedicate more space to it on a separate page in the near future.)
Just before Christmas I recorded Brian Ferneyhough's Coloratura and Allgebrah with Ensemble
Exposé for the Metier Label. It is not out yet but watch this
space!
